We cannot turn back!

Last night for the first time in so many years, I sat and listened to a candidate for President make his nomination acceptance speech. He was a man with a strange name, Barack Obama, but a heartfelt common message to all Americans. As you can see in the picture above, many, old and young, white and black were moved to tears. I was.

I sat and listened to Obama describe our lives at present , the state of others lives in this nation and what needed to be done for them to change the downward spiral that 8 years of George W. Bush have brought to us. I heard him talk about his past and our future. I thought hard about all the years that I believed in corporate America and that their success would mean prosperity for everyone and so we should listen to the Republicans because they knew business.

It did not happen when I was a young man. It did not happen when I was working hard to support my family in my forties. It did not happen as I prepared for the semi-retirement that I entered 2 years ago. It has not happened as a small business owner and today at 62 years old I finally saw clearly that Corporate America was never about you and me, it was about them.

All these years of "let them eat cake" Republican and corporate sponsored philosophy and I see again a glimmer of hope. Because as Barack said last night in his speech, "this election is not about me, its about you!" He spoke of "the American promise"; that it was about personal and mutual committment to move forward to make change happen and to never, never turn back. John McCain is the past. My children and my grandchildren are the future. This election is not about me, it is about them! We must and we will individually and mutually bring them the change that will secure their future, Last night I saw and I believed again that, "YES WE CAN!"

My tears were for the waste of human lives in this country. They were for those who suffered through poverty, illiteracy and discrimination, for those who have died in Iraq while their parents sit empty and as bitterness brews when they realize that this war was a sham and a distraction. My tears were for those of us who were for years, part of the corporate American lie and sit here, now aware of how little we have done to help others and how much damage we have allowed to be wreaked upon our Nation's integrity and our economy's stability while corporate America not only sapped the nation of its prosperity, strength and economic well being but took our jobs and their businesses and built empires abroad.

Take a moment, do not waste time. Life is short and we have this time and only this time to bring change to this country. Act now for yourself, your children and if like me you have them, for your grandchildren. Make sure you are registered to vote and on November 4th actually do vote. Mention it to every co-worker and especially to every young person you meet. Time is running out.

I have put in a link on the page to the right of this blog. Please take the time and watch it. Please take the time in the future to listen closely and watch as history is made.
