"Free" Frogs

Yesterday my two grandsons, Josh (5) and Sam (3), came over to the house and we went for a walk through the woods. Sam suddenly said, "stop!" and squatted at the side of the road. I first thought, "omigod, he's going to the bathroom and I don't have wipes or a change of drawers for him!" But Sam then pipes up and says, "listen, I hear something." We listened and Josh said, "I don't hear anything." Sam indignantly said, "listen, cause I heard something!" I listened and realized that what he heard was the wind moving through the trees. I told Sam, "that's the wind Sam. It's whispering to us. Do you know what it is saying?" Sam said, "no, what is it saying?" I said, " it is whispering so listen real closely. It is whispering follow me, come this way." I thought I was smart because the wind was blowing back the way we came and it was hot and I thought we could cut this walk short and get back home. Hah! The wind changed direction and Sam and Josh said, "no, this way Papa!" So on we went. Then Sam stopped and squatted again. "I hear something", he said. "its just the wind whispering", said Josh! "No", Sam said, "it's "sumpin" else!" I listened and heard the tree frogs starting up their evening chorus. I turned to Sam and Josh and said, " you know what that is?" "No". they said. "Its something really tiny", I said. "Well", Josh said, "it sure is loud for something real tiny." I said, "well boys, sometimes something real tiny can make a big noise. That sound is from tree frogs which are no bigger than the top of my thumb." "Well", said Josh, "I've never seen one." "Never seen one either", said Sam. I told the boys, "just because you can't see something, doesn't mean its not there." We walked home (slowly because little Sam was feeling tired). "Will you show me a "free" frog" Papa, Sam said? "Someday, Sam", I said.
Well Sam and Josh I found one and if you look at the picture at the top of the page you will see that tiny thing that made such a big noise.
Sometimes when I listen carefully, I can hear the sounds of two tiny boys in my head and the noise gets louder and louder until I can hardly stand it. Its a noise called love. My two "free" frogs, Josh and Sam.
